Long-Long weekend…

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

So… It has been a long-long weekend because the 24th of February is national holiday here in Estonia. As on Wednesdays I don’t have classes I caught a bus on Tuesday evening and arrived home at about 10 o’clock.
Thursday was quiet, we went on the ice with Joku’s car.
Friday was quiet, in the evening we had a little offroad adventure, but as the water level was too high it was quite difficult to drive…
Yesterday we drove around, went on the ice… And later had a small LAN-party at Brait’s place playing GTA Vice City. This was cool :D

Hacking Spam-karma

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Spam-Karma is a nice plugin against the comment spam. Already I can say I’m winning this war :D
But it doesn’t have one small feature I would like - “Stats” page just under the “Dashboard” menu… So I tried to add it myself..

It has “some” problems currently (actually, it doesn’t work at all) but it’s only the beginning… :D

[Edit:] I also added Favatars-revised plugin for comments…

Pancake recipe

Friday, February 25th, 2005
  • 3 eggs
  • ~2 glasses milk
  • ~1 glass flour
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • ~1 tbsp. oil
  • some vanilla (where do I get that?)
  • some salt…

Currently it’s only recipe… But I will make some pancakes, I promise.

From MySQL 4.1.x to 4.0.x

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005

In the morning I moved one website from one host to another and thought this is going to be an easy 10-minute job. But no!

Site contents and database transfers were fine (although I had to select MYSQL40 compatibility option for database), so now we started rearranging the name server.

As this host had done some spam-advertising in the past, it was quite hard to find one which accepts this site. So we kept on looking until we decided to set up one @ store20. As it was my first time to do it, I failed miserably :P After lots of rewrites of zone file I finally got it right but all my hosts had cached this entry for the next 2-3 hours… :P

So… site was finally showing correct DNS for me (faster as it was planned, thanks to some /etc/hosts magic), but as I loaded it, it showed some very spanky lost-in-utf-8 rubbish. Hmm.. Soon I discovered that it was because old host had MySQL 4.1… I had 4.0.

I didn’t find a better approach to hand-convert all the entries… Took me ~20 minutes though…
