ScummVM, Tallinna Sügisjooks and OCR

Last week I discovered that it’s possible to run ScummVM on my Ericsson P900 cell phone. So I downloaded the ScummVM engine, uploaded it to phone using Bluetooth and there it was. Next step - the game files. So I downloaded the freeware version of the Flight of the Amazon Queen data file and started uploading it… Unfortunately I didn’t succeed, because phone had only 6.8 mebibytes of available internal memory which made the file transfer over the bluetooth impossible. This meant that I either had to find a writer for Memory Stick Duo or find a software for P900 which would allow me to assemble a file from smaller pieces. But I didn’t find either.. ;)
The solution to this problem was a small program called P3nfs. Getting it working wasn’t that easy (had to figure out the rfcomm stuff on Linux, hopefully I will write instructions how I got it all working), but eventually the game worked on my phone :)
Spent a weekend in Tallinn, helping friends on Tallinn Sügisjooks event. It turned out to be a great success - weather was nice (for the participants at least, because when we were cleaning up later, it started to rain) and there were over 8000 participants which means that it is the biggest sports event in baltic states and also the biggest event since the Estonia gained its independence :D Anyway, helping out (I wasn’t that much an organizer) on these kind of events is one of the things I really like doing…
As I found out yesterday, Google released an open-sourced OCR engine, so I certainly had to check it out… I’m not that impressed with the quality of the wrapping (the code looks a bit mess, the build system is nonexistent), but the functionality is there and it works too. :)
As you can guess I have some ideas for using this for a small but fancy project…
